I've been outside pottering again today so apart from a few Siskins and a Woodpecker who didn't realise I was there, I didn't see much wildlife close up today. My pottering was fun though. The other evening I caught a bit of a TV programme were a lady planted some dried peas straight from an old packet in her kitchen cupboard. They sprouted but instead of letting them grow high, you keep them short and eat the leaves in a salad or even make something called a Peatini, which is blended pea shoots, gin and sugar syrup. I saw this and thought I must give that a go. So I got the seed tray ready, filled with compost and headed off to the kitchen. Only then did I realise I didn't have a packet of dried peas! What I did have though was a packet of dried Scotch Broth mix so I poured some on the counter and picked out all the green round bits and planted them instead. I'm pretty sure they are peas but my other problem is I didn't catch on the programme what month I should be planting them? Oh well, it will be a fun experiment. This Nuthatch appeared just as I'd finished and was back in the house. He was taking lots of food away with him.
