Butterfly's and a mow

I've just seen my first Butterfly of the year. I spotted this Peacock Butterfly pumping its wings on the track in front of the house. He hadn't long emerged by the looks of him. I also spotted a white Butterfly which could have been a Cabbage White or even a Green Vein, but it was too far away to tell. Yesterday the garden had its first mow of the year. The ground feels very strange though, very springy with lots of lumps. It's so bad it could do with a huge roller over it, but we'd never manage to get it to the lower level of the garden where it's needed without a crane. During the mow Alan found this Slow Worm, she had already lost her tail a long time ago. She looked quite fat so I'm guessing she's expecting babies, which will be nice. We had a visit from this Blue Tit today. I can't tell whether he's managed to escape from the paws of a cat or if he's just having a late moult. Whichever it is, he's having a very bad hair day. We also had a visit from this Jay. He had me puzzled for a while as he was acting very strangely. He had a peanut under his foot then he would look, head tilted until his head virtually touched the nut then he'd turn his head quickly and eat it. I soon realised he was blind in one eye and that was the only way he could find where his food was to eat. As for the rest of the garden its still very quiet. Only a few Tit's and Siskins on the feeder and I've not seen any sign of the Hedgehogs for a few nights.
